With the 2014 Winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia concerns for safety and security for the athletes and spectators are as high as ever. Recent terrorist bombings and the fact that the games are held in a troubled region only add to the speculations as to when the next terrorist act will occur.
Russian president’s focused his message on the threat of terror. “We remember tragic situations which happened in the past during international competitions, including the one in the United States during the marathon. It’s all quite recent,” Putin said.
Even though the security – military, police and intelligence agencies had been put on high alert and over 50,000 personnel had been assigned specifically to the games, many experts agree that the threat is still real and high.
